- Set a custom difficulty but it acts like a starting difficulty
You are connected to the pool via a proxy. The pool thinks of the proxy as one miner.
The pool assigns a difficulty that ensures one valid result every ~42 seconds for the sum total of the proxy hashrate.
- My CPU does x hashes/second. Where can I find CPU benchmarks?
CPU benchmarks can be found at RandomX Benchmarks.
- What is the best and easiest way to configure xmrig miner?
By following these instructions xmrig will set optimal parameters for your CPU on first run.
-
Download xmrig for your platform from xmrig.com/download and unpack/unzip/decompress the archive.
-
Navigate to the xmrig directory. Launch xmrig as sudo/admin. Do /not/ use any other parameters. Let it run for a minute. Quit xmrig.
On this first start xmrig probes your hardware and selects optimal settings for your rig.
-
Edit config.json. Put in your desired pool address (url), XMR address (user) and optionally a distinct name (pass).
-
Start xmrig as sudo/admin. Done!
Further /optional/ tuning of config.json:
-
Set (1gb-pages) to true. If your OS does not support it it will set it to false at run time.
-
Set (huge-pages) to true. If your OS does not support it it will set it to false at run time.
-
Set (huge-pages-jit) to true if you have certain early AMD processors. If it does not apply it will not be set at run time.
-
Set (memory-pool) to true if you do algo switching. It will save time between switching and preserve the data set.
-
Set (retries) to any reasonable number. Default is 5.
-
Set (retries-pause) to any reasonable number. Default is 5.
-
There are many more options that come into play with special use cases. Reach out to the supportxmr chat and get info from the team.
- Any tricks or tips to increase my hashrate?
Yes. Check for the following:
- Turn off VM/virtualization support in the Bios. (unless it is needed)
- Turn off Secure Boot in the Bios. (unless it is needed)
- Start xmrig as admin/sudo.
- Having paired RAM instead of a single stick helps a bit.
- As mentioned above, enable 1gb pages and huge pages.
- Clean your CPU heat sink and all the fans in the enclosure.
